Early Morning Fire Razes 50 Shops at Kano Market
An early-morning fire has destroyed at least 50 shops at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in the Dakata area of Kano State.
The blaze reportedly broke out around 5:40 a.m. on Friday, sending traders scrambling to salvage goods as flames tore through sections of the market.
The incident comes less than a week after a major fire at Singer Market that affected over 1,000 traders, compounding concerns among business owners in the state.
Speaking to journalists, Dauda Haruna Chula, head of the market’s fire committee, said most of the affected shops were small-scale businesses engaged in oil production as well as nylon and plastic recycling.
“From the preliminary what we have seen, about 50 shops are already down and the fire is still ongoing. We are still expecting the Kano State Fire Service personnel,” he said.
Chula added that the committee had confirmed the outbreak and made efforts to contact the relevant emergency authorities for intervention.
As of the time of reporting, the full extent of the damage remains unclear, and there has been no official confirmation of casualties.
