EFCC Arrests Three Maiduguri Socialites Over Alleged Naira Mutilation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested three socialites in Maiduguri, Borno State, over allegations of Naira mutilation.

The Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the arrests followed the circulation of a viral video showing the suspects allegedly spraying and abusing Naira notes at a social event.

“Working on intelligence, the commission traced the trio and arrested them in Maiduguri, Borno.

“The suspects are currently under investigation and they will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” Oyewale stated.

The anti-graft agency has in recent months intensified enforcement against currency abuse, warning that spraying, defacing, or mishandling the Naira constitutes an offense under Nigerian law.
