Lagos Taskforce Intensifies Enforcement Along Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road
The Lagos State Taskforce has stepped up enforcement activities along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road corridor, targeting traffic violations, illegal commercial motorcycle operations, and unauthorized roadside structures.
During the operation, over 50 motorcycles were seized, while 10 vehicles were arrested for various traffic-related offences.
Videos from the enforcement exercise were shared on Sunday by Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, showing taskforce officials taking action against unlicensed structures, commercial motorcyclists, and traffic offenders.
According to the update, the operation focused on violations such as one-way driving, illegal motorcycle operations, and the construction of shanties along the coastal road corridor. Several motorcycles, including one belonging to a dispatch rider, were impounded during the clampdown.
“Lagos State Taskforce has commenced enforcement against okada operations, one-way driving, and the removal of shanties along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road corridor,” the statement read.
It added that more than 50 motorcycles were confiscated for operating on highways in violation of Lagos State traffic laws, while 10 vehicles were arrested and are to be charged to court for driving against traffic. The taskforce noted that enforcement efforts would continue.
The operation aligns with ongoing environmental sanitation and traffic management initiatives announced earlier by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. In November 2025, Wahab confirmed that clearance exercises were ongoing along the route, particularly in areas such as Lakowe, where illegal shanties, makeshift structures, and roadside trading points were obstructing drainage systems and pedestrian movement.
He also stated that enforcement was being extended to street traders and environmental sanitation offenders within the corridor.
The intensified enforcement follows growing public concern over persistent one-way driving and dangerous motorcycle activities in several parts of Lagos, despite restrictions on commercial motorbike operations on major roads.
State authorities maintain that the exercise is aimed at restoring order, improving road safety, and protecting key infrastructure along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road project.
