Six Arrested as Police Recover Stolen Vehicles in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a car theft syndicate and recovered three stolen vehicles across the state.

In a statement issued on February 22, 2026, the command said the arrests followed sustained intelligence-led and technology-driven operations aimed at curbing vehicle theft. The move aligns with directives from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

According to the police, operatives of the Special Intervention Squad, acting under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, arrested 35-year-old Aliyu Mamman on February 13 near Hotoro Ring Road in Kano.

Mamman, said to be a resident of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, allegedly confessed to stealing multiple vehicles in Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states. He also reportedly identified other members of the syndicate.

Those named include Ahmad Mannir, Sani Bala, Auwal Shuaibu, Saliha Abdulhamid, and Abdulhamid Usman. All have since been taken into custody.

Police say the suspects’ confessions led to the recovery of three vehicles: a Golf Wagon, a Golf Opel, and a Hijet, commonly known as Kurkura.

The Commissioner of Police commended the Special Intervention Squad for what he described as professionalism and dedication in tracking down the suspects and retrieving the stolen cars.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers.
