Commercial Motorcyclist Killed During Motorcycle Purchase in Edo
Ayoade Ohiremen, a 28-year-old commercial motorcyclist, was reportedly killed during a dispute while attempting to purchase a new motorcycle in Edo State.
The incident occurred in the Ahor area along the Oluku Road bypass in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Benin City.
Sources said Ohiremen, who operated in the Ahor-Uzala axis of the Oluku-Benin-Auchi Road bypass, had gone with fellow commercial riders to acquire a motorcycle under a balance-and-carry arrangement. Tensions allegedly escalated when some of his colleagues accused him of misconduct and insisted he was not permitted to take possession of the motorcycle.
An argument reportedly broke out and turned violent. He was allegedly beaten unconscious and died at the scene.
The assailants are said to have dragged his body to a nearby farm before fleeing.
Richard Balogun, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations) of the Edo State Security Corps, confirmed the incident. He stated that officers responded swiftly after receiving the report and launched a pursuit of the suspects.
One individual, identified as Bello Bawa, has been arrested in connection with the killing, while efforts continue to apprehend others allegedly involved.
