Abia Governor Sends Off 2025 Hajj Pilgrims, Urges Prayers for Peace and National Unity

As Muslim pilgrims from Abia State prepare to journey to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj, the state government has called on them to pray fervently for peace, unity, and prosperity in both Abia and Nigeria.

At a ceremonial send-off held in Umuahia, Professor Kenneth Kalu, Secretary to the Abia State Government (SSG), who represented Governor Alex Otti, urged the pilgrims to remain focused on the spiritual purpose of the pilgrimage and to act as honorable ambassadors of the state.

I urge you to remember Abia and Nigeria in your prayers during this sacred journey. Do not lose focus on the purpose of Hajj. Represent our state with dignity and do not abscond,” said Prof. Kalu.

Kalu stressed the importance of discipline, encouraging the pilgrims to obey the laws of their host country and resist any temptation to abscond, a recurring concern during international religious travels.

He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to religious inclusion, adding that Governor Otti remains dedicated to the spiritual welfare of all residents, regardless of faith.

The Governor believes in the strength of our diversity and supports the religious aspirations of all citizens,” he noted.

Sheikh Ali Ukiwo, Chairman of the Abia State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, thanked Governor Otti for his support, pledging that the pilgrims would uphold the trust placed in them.

The Governor has shown great support to the Muslim community. We are committed to upholding that trust and will represent Abia with honor,” said Sheikh Ukiwo.

Also speaking was Sarki Yaro Danladi, the leader of the 2025 Hajj contingent and head of the Northern Community in Abia State, who expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity and promised continued prayers for the growth and development of the state and nation.

We are proud to represent Abia and will continue to pray for peace and prosperity across Nigeria,” he said.
