Nigeria Police Deny Allegations of Using Helicopter to Supply Bandits in Kogi
The Nigeria Police Force has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media that one of its helicopters was used to deliver food to bandits in Kogi State, describing the reports as false, misleading, and dangerous disinformation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, clarified that the video at the center of the controversy, showing a police helicopter landing in a wooded area, was recorded during a legitimate security operation in Obajana, Kogi State, on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
“The police helicopter seen in the video was deployed to provide aerial support and surveillance to ground troops during the operation,” the statement said.
According to the police, the helicopter was part of a coordinated security mission involving the Nigerian Police, other security agencies, local vigilante groups, and community hunters. The operation was launched to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes threatening lives in the Obajana area.
“The suggestion that the helicopter was used to deliver food items to bandits is entirely baseless and mischievous,” the statement continued.
The viral video, initially shared by anonymous social media accounts, triggered public outrage and speculation, with some users accusing the government of collusion with criminal groups.
The Nigeria Police Force has urged citizens to disregard false claims and instead seek information through verified and official police communication channels.
“We encourage members of the public to rely solely on factual updates from our official platforms. The spread of fake news only undermines public trust and endangers our collective security efforts,” the statement warned.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to national security, pledging to continue working with relevant security partners to protect lives and property across the country.
“We will not relent in our efforts to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians. We remain focused, transparent, and accountable in our mission,” the Force added.
