Applications Open for Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Nigerian Journalists

The Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Nigerian Journalists is now accepting applications, according to a joint announcement from the U.S. Consulate in Lagos and the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).

The one-year fellowship program is designed to honor the legacy of Adejumobi Adegbite, a respected journalist and Information Specialist at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, who passed away in July 2023.

The initiative will provide ten early-career journalists, with no more than five years of experience in print, web, radio, or television, with rigorous training and supervision to enhance their skills in:

  • Investigative journalism

  • Multimedia storytelling

  • Ethical reporting

  • Data-driven journalism

Each fellow will receive mentorship, technical support, and mobile journalism tools to help them produce impactful public interest stories.

Julie McKay, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate, praised Adegbite’s legacy and the purpose of the fellowship:

Adegbite was not only a remarkable journalist but also an invaluable asset to the U.S. Consulate’s Public Diplomacy Section. We’re grateful to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism for partnering with us to honor his legacy in this meaningful way and for inspiring the next generation of reporters to pursue journalism.”

How to Apply

Young Nigerian journalists interested in applying for the Adegbite Fellowship are encouraged to visit the FIJ website or the U.S. Consulate’s communication channels for application details and eligibility criteria.
