Port Harcourt Refinery to Undergo Planned Maintenance Shutdown from May 24 – NNPC Announces
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a scheduled maintenance shutdown beginning May 24, 2025. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by Femi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer.
According to Soneye, the shutdown is part of routine maintenance and sustainability assessment efforts designed to ensure optimal and long-term operational efficiency of the refinery.
“This scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment will commence on May 24, 2025,” the statement read.
“We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure the maintenance and assessment activities are carried out efficiently and transparently.”
NNPC Ltd also assured Nigerians that further updates regarding the progress and completion of the maintenance work will be communicated regularly through official channels.
“NNPC Ltd remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable energy security,” Soneye added.
The Port Harcourt Refinery is one of Nigeria’s key refining assets. This shutdown is seen as a proactive step in the broader effort to revitalize Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and reduce reliance on fuel imports.
