Wike Travels to China to Secure Water Supply for FCT Satellite Towns
In a strategic move aimed at accelerating development in underserved areas, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has embarked on a working trip to China to hold high-level meetings on water supply infrastructure for the FCT’s satellite towns.
According to Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, the minister is expected to arrive in China shortly for discussions that could shape the future of water accessibility in remote FCT communities.
“In keeping up with the President’s directive that there must be water supply in satellite towns in Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils, the Minister has embarked on the trip to China for a crucial meeting with the CGCOC Group,” Olayinka said in an official statement.
“He is expected back to Nigeria next week.”
The visit builds on a commitment made during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to China in September 2023, where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese firms — China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group.
The agreements were aimed at boosting both water and electricity infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory, with a particular emphasis on delivering people-centered development that restores public confidence in governance.
President Tinubu has since approved N50 billion for the provision of safe, drinkable water across various satellite towns, including Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje, areas that have long struggled with basic water access.
Minister Wike’s meetings with CGCOC executives are expected to fast-track implementation timelines, iron out engineering logistics, and secure long-term cooperation to meet Nigeria’s water access goals.
The FCT administration has consistently reiterated its commitment to extending development beyond the Abuja city center. Wike’s latest diplomatic engagement reinforces that promise, signaling a clear shift toward infrastructure-driven governance focused on inclusive development for all residents.
