Yobe Governor Calls for Stronger Army-Air Force Cooperation to Tackle Insecurity
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has emphasized the urgent need for enhanced collaboration between the Nigerian Army and Air Force in order to defeat terrorism and other security threats plaguing the region.
Governor Buni made the appeal on Thursday following a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, at the Government House in Damaturu.
“The issue of security is a collective responsibility,” Buni stated.
“We will do everything possible to ensure the success of the fight against insecurity.”
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the military and all security agencies, noting the critical role they play in safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of Yobe citizens.
He praised the Nigerian Army’s dedication and resilience, and commended their progress in restoring relative peace to the state after years of violent insurgency.
In response, Lt. Gen. Oluyede pledged to deploy additional troops and equipment to strengthen security operations across Yobe State.
“We cannot afford to allow the Sahel experience into this country. We must collectively rise to the occasion to fight this ugly scourge,” the Army Chief declared.
Oluyede, who previously served in Yobe as a field commander, expressed personal commitment to ensuring the state does not relapse into conflict.
“Having worked very hard and achieved peace in Yobe as a Commander, I cannot sit and watch that peace eroded as a Chief of Army Staff now,” he said.
The COAS also called on the public to play their part by providing credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that community involvement is key to long-term peace.
