Apo-Wassa Road to Be Inaugurated for Tinubu’s Second Anniversary — Wike

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has confirmed that the 15-kilometer Apo-Wassa road project will be completed and inaugurated as part of events marking President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.

Speaking during an inspection tour in Abuja on Saturday, Wike also revealed that several major infrastructure projects—across both the city and satellite towns—will be unveiled in late May 2025 to commemorate the president’s anniversary.

“By next week, we will be able to provide the full list of projects that will be inaugurated to celebrate Tinubu’s second anniversary,” Wike stated.

The Apo to Wassa road, which forms the left wing of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) service lane from Ring Road I to Wassa Junction, was designed to ease traffic congestion and improve access to the rapidly developing Wassa District.

Wike praised China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), the project’s contractor, for delivering the work on time, affirming that it will be among the headline projects commissioned in May.

Other major projects inspected or highlighted include:

  • The Maitama–Katampe–Wole Soyinka Way connector via Gishiri Village

  • The N16 Interchange construction at NICON Junction

  • Obafemi Awolowo Way Phase I (from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III)

  • Renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre

  • The Greater Abuja Water Supply Project

“So many roads, in both satellite towns and the city. Even the water supply project will be inaugurated,” Wike said.
“It will take us about two weeks to inaugurate most of our projects.”

The minister reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to people-oriented projects, including rebuilding schools and constructing new roads in underserved communities.

He also pledged to strengthen security infrastructure in the capital and surrounding districts, noting that development must be accompanied by safety and sustainability.

“On our part, we will do everything we can to ensure that all facilities and infrastructure provided are protected,” he said.

Wike thanked residents for their continued cooperation and urged communities to take ownership of public infrastructure by guarding against vandalism and promoting civic responsibility.
