Uzodimma Orders DSS, Police to Deepen Probe Into JAMB Website Hack as 370,000 Results Affected
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to intensify investigations into the recent cyberattack on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) website, which disrupted exam results for over 370,000 students, mostly from the South-East.
The governor’s directive comes on the heels of the arrest of 20 suspects accused of hacking the JAMB Computer-Based Testing (CBT) platform for financial gain. The arrests were made public on Friday in a joint statement by security agencies.
In a statement released on Saturday by Declan Emelumba, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Governor Uzodimma, who also chairs the South-East Governors’ Forum, described the arrest as "timely" and commended security forces for their efforts.
“This unfortunate incident is a national disgrace that must be addressed urgently,” Uzodimma stated.
“The trauma caused to candidates and their parents, especially in the South-East, cannot be overlooked.”
He urged both the DSS and the police to fast-track their investigations, identify the masterminds behind the cyber breach, and bring them to justice without delay.
The scale of the cyberattack has raised alarm across the country. According to reports, the JAMB portal was hacked and manipulated by individuals who charged students fees to guarantee them favorable results or direct access to the system.
As a result, thousands of students, particularly in the South-East, were left in confusion after experiencing irregularities or missing scores in the 2025 UTME results.
Despite the scandal, Governor Uzodimma praised JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for maintaining the integrity of the examination body amidst mounting pressure.
“Prof. Oloyede has shown commendable leadership and transparency in the face of this crisis,” the governor noted.
