Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa Denies Interest in Kano Governorship, Senate Race
As political speculations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to swirl, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting he intends to contest for either the Kano South senatorial seat or the Kano State governorship.
In a personally signed statement released to the media on Sunday, the four-term federal legislator made it clear that he has no political ambition tied to the 2027 Kano governorship race or a senatorial bid.
“I am compelled for the umpteenth time to state clearly for clarification sake that I am neither interested in contesting for the Kano South Senatorial seat, nor in the Kano governorship position in 2027,” he declared.
Jibrin Kofa acknowledged the frequent mention of his name in political circles but interpreted it as a compliment and testament to his contributions to governance and public service.
“It is not surprising that my name always comes up in discussions like these… I take it as a reflection that I have made my modest contribution politically and will continue to do so in service to my constituents and country,” he noted.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, Kofa has previously chaired several key House committees, including Finance, Appropriations, Transportation, and Foreign Affairs.
He reaffirmed his dedication to public service, stating:
“Those who know me well know that wherever I find myself politically, in business, or academia I am unwavering in my commitment to deliver results. That has always been my principle.”
In addition to his legislative duties, Kofa serves as Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
Describing himself as “modestly ambitious,” Kofa expressed contentment with the opportunities he has enjoyed and remained optimistic about the future:
“I look forward to the future with optimism.”
Widely respected in Kano political circles and known by his traditional title Jarman Bebeji, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, PhD, remains a central figure in the state’s political landscape. His clarification comes amidst growing speculation surrounding the 2027 election cycle in Kano State.
