Pastor Sam Adeyemi Criticizes Nigerian Leaders for Lacking Compassion and Focus on Public Welfare

Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, has strongly criticized the apparent lack of empathy and compassion among many Nigerian political leaders, stating that they have become disconnected from the realities faced by the poor.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, the renowned pastor expressed concern over the self-serving nature of today’s politics, where power retention outweighs meaningful governance.

Pastor Adeyemi lamented that many in positions of leadership speak and act with indifference toward the struggles of everyday Nigerians, further deepening the socio-economic divide.

Some of our leaders, it is even obvious from the way they speak, that they have lost touch with the reality of the poor. They have no empathy, no compassion,” he said.

Commenting on the frequent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by politicians from opposition parties, Adeyemi asserted that these moves are not based on ideological alignment but on fear of political survival.

Some of them are being threatened that they would lose their next election, that’s why they are defecting. So their own survival is being threatened,” he added.

The pastor stressed the need for an environment where leaders can make the right decisions and genuinely serve the people, instead of prioritizing personal gain.

We want to create an environment that will make it possible for those in leadership to lead us in the right directions,” he said, emphasizing the urgent need for values-based leadership in Nigeria’s democratic process.
