Agatu Council Chairman Mourns as Father Loses Five Children in Boat Accident

The Deputy ALGON Chairman of Benue State and Chairman of Agatu Local Government AreaHon. James Melvin Ejeh, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of five children in Obagaji community on Sunday night.

The heartbreaking incident occurred when Mr. Moses Baba and his five children were returning home from their farm. Their overloaded boat reportedly capsized midstream, throwing all six passengers into the river.

While Mr. Baba narrowly survived, all five of his children drowned before help could reach them.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Amb. Obochi Solomon, Chairman Ejeh described the tragedy as “unfortunate, heart-wrenching, and painful.”

He thanked local volunteers who joined in the rescue and recovery efforts and extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the Obagaji community.

The chairman urged residents to adhere to safety measures when navigating waterways, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent similar tragedies.

He also prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the grieving family, calling the incident a devastating loss that has shaken the entire Agatu community.
