Two Dead as Trailer Crushes Victims on Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road

Tragedy struck on the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road near Idi Ayunre after a Kulum Quarry trailer lost control and crushed three people, killing two and leaving one severely injured.

The accident occurred on Saturday at Olohunde Ige Village, when the trailer reportedly veered off course and ran over pedestrians.

One victim died instantly, while two others were rushed to the hospital. According to eyewitnesses, one of the survivors had a severed limb, and the second later died in the hospital from his injuries.

Following the tragedy, angry youths in the area staged a protest, blocking the road in outrage over the recurring accidents along the route.

On Monday, the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government AreaEngineer Akeem Olatunji, visited the scene to calm the situation and meet with residents.

Addressing the crowd, Olatunji described the incident as “another avoidable tragedy” and vowed to ensure that both the driver and the quarry company are held accountable.

He also promised that efforts would be made to compensate the victims’ families, urging the youths to remain calm and avoid violence.

“This is another avoidable tragedy. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. No one should lose their loved ones in such a cruel manner, especially when it could have been prevented.

We understand your anger, but we must handle this responsibly. I assure you, justice will be served,” he said.
