Nigeria at 65: Adewole Adebayo Warns Nation Cannot Prosper in Fear

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, 2023 Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has lamented that millions of Nigerians still live in poverty and fear, a situation he says threatens the nation’s future.

Adebayo urged urgent action against corruption, hunger, and insecurity, stressing that Nigeria’s potential will remain unrealized until these challenges are tackled head-on.

“No nation can prosper while its people live in fear. Peace is not optional; it is the precondition for progress, the anchor of prosperity, and the oxygen of national renewal,” he declared.

Looking back, Adebayo recalled the hopes of Nigeria’s founding fathers, especially Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the country’s first prime minister.

He noted that while their vision was of a united, prosperous nation, the current reality for many Nigerians is far from that dream.

“The projected ideal and the reality for many Nigerians now, 65 years later, differ significantly,” Adebayo observed.
