Herdsman and 36 Cattle Killed in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community
Tension has risen again in Ndinn village, Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, after unknown attackers killed a herdsman and 36 of his livestock in an unprovoked assault on Monday.
The latest tragedy adds to the recurring wave of violence in the troubled region, where retaliatory attacks have continued to claim lives and destroy livelihoods.
Residents say the attack is yet another example of the insecurity and lawlessness that have plagued their communities, noting that despite several similar incidents in recent weeks, no arrests have been made.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the attackers struck in the early hours, leaving behind a scene of devastation and fear among residents.
In a statement on Wednesday, Muhammad Saidu, Coordinator of the Fulbe Youth Development Association (FUYODA), Riyom Chapter, condemned the killings as “a heartbreaking reminder of the persistent insecurity and injustice faced by peaceful Fulani communities in Plateau.”
“We strongly condemn this act of violence and call on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served,” Saidu said.
He urged the government to rebuild trust among pastoral communities, emphasizing that herders continue to suffer silently in the ongoing communal conflict.
“May Almighty Allah grant Abubakar Alhaji Woda Jannatul Firdaus, forgive his shortcomings, and comfort his family during this difficult time,” he added.
As of the time of this report, neither security agencies nor the Plateau State Government had issued an official statement on the attack.
Makama noted that many similar assaults against herders in the state often go unreported or dismissed as retaliatory, fueling an endless cycle of violence.
Community leaders have again urged authorities to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, warning that impunity could deepen tensions across the region.
