ICPC to Prosecute Kano ‘Journalist’ for ₦14 Million Fraud, Impersonation
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced plans to prosecute Mr. Alkazim Kabir, a self-proclaimed journalist from Kano State also known as “Abbati Kabiru Abuwa,” for allegedly defrauding several victims of about ₦14 million through impersonation and deceit.
In a statement released by Demola Bakare, Director of Public Enlightenment and Education at the ICPC, the Commission said Kabir’s prosecution follows multiple petitions accusing him of fraud, deception, and impersonationof high-ranking government officials.
According to ICPC investigations, Kabir allegedly posed as aides to the President, Vice President, and members of the National Assembly, deceiving unsuspecting individuals and collecting large sums of money from them.
“In one instance, he obtained $3,300 and 1,620 Saudi Riyals from two victims under the guise of being a Presidential and Vice-Presidential aide,” Bakare stated.
Investigators also discovered that Kabir often exploited international religious trips for financial gain. During a pilgrimage to Mecca, he allegedly borrowed 11,000 Saudi Riyals from a fellow traveler and later sent a forged bank receipt as proof of repayment.
In another case, he reportedly issued a fake transfer receipt of ₦3.2 million to a travel agent who had helped arrange his flight, hotel, and train bookings.
The ICPC confirmed that formal charges have been filed, and Kabir will soon be arraigned before a competent courtonce the case is assigned.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to pursuing fraud-related offenses, warning Nigerians to be vigilant against individuals posing as public officials for personal gain.
