Farmer Attacked by Suspected Herders in Borno State: Authorities Launch Investigation

In Jakana Village, located in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, a local farmer was attacked and left severely injured by suspected herders.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the incident on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, noting that the attack occurred on Wednesday.

According to Makama, the confrontation began after a group of herders allegedly drove their cattle onto a local bean farm, allowing them to graze freely on the crops.

One of the herders reportedly attacked Mohammad Ali Fantami, a 30-year-old farmer from Kadamari Lamboa jungle, when he tried to chase the animals away.

“The assailant was said to have severed his left hand and inflicted deep cuts on his neck before escaping.

The victim was immediately taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where he is currently receiving treatment,” Makama stated.

Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway, and efforts are being made to locate and apprehend the suspects.

The attack adds to ongoing tensions between farmers and herders across parts of northern Nigeria, where disputes over land use and grazing rights continue to spark violent confrontations.

Officials and local leaders are urging calm while emphasizing the need for stronger conflict resolution mechanisms between farming and herding communities.
