Bandit Attack in Katsina Leaves Two Injured, Scores Abducted
Armed bandits reportedly attacked Unguwar Daudu village in the Dukke ward of Funtua Local Government Area, Katsina State, injuring two civilians and abducting at least twenty others.
The bandit attack in Katsina State occurred on Sunday night, according to reports shared on Monday.
The attack was disclosed by Bakatsine, a journalist known for reporting on conflict and insecurity in northwest Nigeria.
According to his account, gunmen stormed the Unguwar Daudu community under the cover of night, leaving residents injured and families searching for abducted loved ones.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation on the condition or whereabouts of those taken.
Beyond the immediate violence, the incident has renewed debate over the effectiveness of ongoing peace agreements in Katsina State.
Bakatsine noted that the attack occurred despite multiple peace deals reportedly brokered by local authorities to curb banditry in the area.
In his words:
“ALERT: Last night, bandits attacked Unguwar Daudu community in Dukke ward, Funtua LGA of Katsina State, injuring two residents and abducting at least 20 others. The attack comes despite multiple peace deals brokered by local authorities.
“What is undermining these agreements, and how can civilian protection be improved?”
His remarks reflect growing public concern over whether negotiated settlements are translating into real safety for rural communities.
The bandit attack in Katsina State fits a wider pattern of insecurity that has affected several parts of the northwest, where communities continue to face raids, kidnappings, and displacement.
Residents in affected areas often report limited warning before attacks and slow access to protection, particularly in remote villages.
