NSCDC Officer Killed During Crime Intervention in Kano
Three suspected armed criminals have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, following the killing of one of its officers during a crime intervention in Kano.
The incident involved a 29-year-old officer, AbduRauf A. Shariff, who was on duty at the Court Road outpost when the attack occurred.
Confirming the development, the Kano State Command Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, said the officer was killed while attempting to stop a group of criminals engaged in phone snatching and other unlawful activities.
According to Abdullahi, the suspects had arrived at the scene in large numbers and were armed with weapons. When the officer confronted them in an effort to halt the criminal act, he was attacked.
He explained that the assailants inflicted severe injuries on the officer using their weapons, which ultimately led to his death.
“Unfortunately, the criminals were carrying weapons, which they used in killing him after causing serious injuries,” Abdullahi said.
The NSCDC spokesperson added that three of the suspects were apprehended at the scene after additional security personnel arrived and overpowered them. Other members of the group reportedly fled the area.
He further disclosed that the NSCDC is currently working in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to track down and arrest the remaining suspects connected to the attack.
Following a medical examination, the late officer, AbduRauf A. Shariff, was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
Authorities have described the incident as a painful loss and reaffirmed their commitment to bringing all those responsible to justice.
