Police Foil Robbery Attempt Near MRS Filling Station in Abuja
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have foiled an attempted robbery near the MRS Filling Station in the Kado area of Abuja, following a swift, intelligence-driven response.
The development was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to Adeh, the Abuja robbery attempt was reported on Friday after Mabushi Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress alert about three suspected armed robbers attacking residents in the area.
Police officers from the Mabushi Division were immediately deployed to the scene.
“On sighting the police team, the suspects attempted to flee, leading to a hot pursuit and an exchange of gunfire,” Adeh said.
During the encounter, one of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The remaining suspects reportedly escaped into surrounding bushes, and efforts are ongoing to track and arrest them.
Following the operation, police recovered several items believed to be connected to the suspects’ criminal activities.
According to the police spokesperson, the recovered exhibits include:
One black Volkswagen Golf 2 with registration number JJJ 112 DW
One Beretta pistol
One locally fabricated pistol
One Firman generator
One Tecno Spark 4 Android phone
One Tecno T353 mobile phone
One Access Bank ATM card
One catapult
One pair of pliers
One pair of canvas shoes
Two pairs of slippers
One singlet
One cap
One jacket
One T-shirt
One handkerchief
SP Adeh noted that the recovery of weapons and tools suggests the suspects were prepared for coordinated criminal activity, reinforcing concerns about armed robbery threats within parts of the FCT.
She further stated that the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The Commissioner of Police reassures residents of the Federal Capital Territory of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” she said.
