Two Killed in Early-Morning Road Crash on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway

Two people lost their lives in a lone vehicle accident near Oremeji Bus Stop along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State on Friday.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued in Abeokuta by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi.

According to the statement, the crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. and involved a Mazda bus with registration number YNF 414 XN.

Akinbiyi said the vehicle, which was conveying live chicks, lost control while in motion and collided with a road barrier before somersaulting.

Witnesses at the scene attributed the accident to excessive speed.

The two occupants of the vehicle, identified as the driver and the conductor, were adult males and were confirmed dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Officials of the Ibafo Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force towed the crashed vehicle for further investigation.

The remains of the deceased were taken to the Divine Touch Hospital mortuary in Ibafo by officials of TRACE, the police, and the Ogun State Emergency Services.

Akinbiyi added that although traffic flow was temporarily affected during the rescue and recovery operation, normal movement was later restored through the combined efforts of TRACE officers and the police.
