Teen Dies in Hotel Swimming Pool Incident in Osun State

An incident at a hotel swimming pool in Owode-Ede, along the Osogbo-Gbongan Road, reportedly led to the death of an unidentified teenager on January 1. The event has since drawn attention from residents, security agencies, and concerned observers.

According to available reports, the teenager allegedly drowned inside the hotel’s swimming pool. The exact circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear at the time of reporting.

What followed the tragedy added another layer of concern.

Friends and relatives of the deceased reportedly returned to the hotel the next day to protest what they described as dissatisfaction with how the incident was handled by the hotel management.

The protest created tension in the surrounding neighborhood, with residents expressing fear as the situation escalated.

Security agencies moved quickly to prevent further unrest.

The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps intervened, ensuring the situation did not turn violent. Their presence reportedly helped restore calm and prevent damage to lives or property.

An eyewitness explained the sequence of events.

“The incident happened on January 1 when the teenager died inside the hotel’s swimming pool and was confirmed dead. On Friday, some people who were unhappy with the hotel’s response came back to protest. The police and NSCDC intervened, and the matter was brought under control.”

The Osun State Police Command also addressed the matter.

Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and clarified that it did not amount to a mob action.

He stated that the family returned to the hotel to express their concerns and that the issue was resolved peacefully with the assistance of security personnel.

“The victim died inside the hotel’s swimming pool. The family went back to express their concerns, but the issue was settled peacefully,” Giwa-Alade said.

He added that an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death. According to him, the findings will be made public once the investigation is concluded.
