Eight Killed in Coordinated Attack on Kebbi Communities

At least eight people have been confirmed dead following a coordinated armed attack on three communities in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Kebbi State attack targeted Kaiwa, Gebbe, and Gelawa settlements on Sunday night, triggering fear and displacement among residents.

According to local sources, the attackers arrived in large numbers on motorcycles and struck the communities simultaneously, firing indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee.

“We saw them riding into our community, and immediately people began to run for safety, but some were not so lucky,” one resident said. “They killed more than eight people and abducted an unspecified number of others.”

Witnesses said that while some residents managed to escape into nearby bushes and neighboring towns, others were trapped during the sudden assault.

The sustained gunfire reportedly caused widespread panic, with families abandoning their homes in search of safety. Many residents remain displaced, and the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

A local source described the attack on Gebbe as particularly alarming, noting that the community had not experienced such violence in recent years.

“It has been difficult to determine the exact number of casualties because many people fled during the attack,” the source added.

The incident was confirmed by the Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, who said security agencies have launched coordinated operations across the affected areas.

According to him, seven victims were initially reported dead across the three communities, while one additional victim later died while receiving medical treatment.

Police said patrols and surveillance have been intensified to prevent further attacks and restore calm in the region.
