Nigerian Troops Uncover Boko Haram Underground Logistics Hub in Borno
Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground Boko Haram logistics hub in Borno State, stocked with fuel, medical supplies, food items, and operational equipment.
The discovery followed intelligence-led military operations targeting terrorist hideouts in the Timbuktu Triangle, a volatile area known for insurgent activity. The affected locations included Chilaria, Garin Faruk, and Abirma. The operation was carried out on Sunday.
Confirming the development on Monday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, said the mission formed part of Operation Desert Sanity, an ongoing offensive aimed at dismantling terrorist networks in the North East.
According to the statement, troops launched coordinated ground assaults on January 18, 2026, after advancing from their forward positions into identified terrorist strongholds.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded further operational successes in the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks by the insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle.”
Sani explained that the operation led to the destruction of several camps linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP, significantly weakening their operational presence in the area.
A key factor in the success, he noted, was sustained air and ground coordination.
“The air-ground synergy enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movements, deterred adversary reinforcement, and enhanced the precision and confidence of ground operations.”
During the operation, troops recovered a range of weapons, equipment, and supplies believed to have supported terrorist activities. Items recovered included:
Baofeng radios and mobile phones
Five AK-47 magazines
Several rounds of 7.62 × 39mm special ammunition
7.62mm NATO belted ammunition
Additional recoveries further revealed the scale of the underground logistics network. These included:
Boko Haram and ISWAP flags
Links of 12.7 × 108 mm ammunition
Diesel-powered grinding machines
Large quantities of medical supplies
Several bags of grains
A pickup truck
An underground logistics storage facility
Petroleum products and oil lubricants
According to Sani, the recovery and destruction of these assets severely disrupted the terrorists’ ability to operate, move supplies, and sustain their activities in the region.
The troops also faced resistance during the mission. Sani disclosed that advancing forces came under armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists around midday.
“Despite this, the troops maintained momentum and continued the offensives. A second drone attack attempted in the evening was also decisively repelled, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area.”
While the area has since returned to relative calm, Sani cautioned that the situation remains unpredictable. Troops, he said, are maintaining a high level of vigilance.
“The general security situation in the area is assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness.”
He added that military leadership remains committed to sustaining Operation Hadin Kai, eliminating terrorist threats, protecting civilians, and restoring lasting peace to Nigeria’s North East.
