Two Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
At least two people have been confirmed dead, with several others injured, following a multi-vehicle collision at Kara Bridge inward Mowe on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m., according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
LASTMA disclosed that the accident involved a fully loaded articulated truck that reportedly toppled and crashed into multiple vehicles.
The vehicles affected include:
A Toyota Corolla
A Toyota RAV4 SUV with Lagos registration number LSR-618-HS
Two loaded interstate Mazda buses with registration numbers APP-835-XY and JJJ-538-YE, both registered in Lagos State
The collision caused significant disruption to traffic flow along the expressway.
LASTMA traffic officers, popularly known as PAPA OSCAR, were immediately deployed to the scene to manage traffic and support rescue operations.
According to the agency:
“Multiple vehicle crash involving a truck that fell on its side, a Corolla, an SUV (RAV4), and two loaded interstate Mazda buses has been reported on Kara Bridge inwards Mowe.
“Two fatalities were recorded, and several people were injured. All injured persons have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
Recovery trucks were brought in to remove damaged vehicles, while emergency responders coordinated the evacuation of injured victims to nearby medical facilities.
LASTMA confirmed that recovery operations were still ongoing as of the time of the update.
The resulting traffic congestion stretched back toward the Secretariat area and extended through River Valley and Kosoko axis, causing significant delays for motorists.
Drivers were advised to:
Avoid the Ojodu-Berger corridor where possible
Consider alternative routes
Prepare for extended delays if travel is unavoidable
As recovery efforts continue, authorities say traffic control remains in place to restore normal movement along the expressway.
LASTMA reiterated its commitment to prompt emergency response and urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly around heavy-duty vehicles.
