Jigawa Police Arrest 17 Suspects in Statewide Raids

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspected criminals during a series of coordinated security raids conducted across the state.

The operations led to the recovery of firearms, illegal drugs, cash, and items believed to be stolen.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam.

According to the statement, two suspects, Haruna Saleh and Usman Damina Bahaushe, were arrested in Dutse Local Government Area. The arrest followed a complaint in which the suspects were identified by a victim.

During the operation, police recovered ₦143,250 in cash, weapons, and mobile phones found in their possession.

In a separate operation in Malam Madori Local Government Area, Ayuba Idris and Ibrahim Muhammad were arrested on suspicion of vandalizing and stealing copper cables from an electricity transformer. Mobile phones and other items were also recovered from the suspects.

Police further disclosed that three individuals were apprehended in Kirikasamma Local Government Area over alleged involvement in armed robbery and criminal homicide. Items recovered from them included mobile phones and a motorcycle.

Additional arrests were made across Kaugama, Gumel, Sara, and Hadejia Local Government Areas, where Murtala Bature and Musa Yakubu were taken into custody.

During these Jigawa State police raids, officers recovered:

  • Five wraps of suspected cannabis

  • A locally fabricated rifle

  • Other substances believed to be hard drugs

The statement also revealed that suspected livestock rustlers abandoned two Kasea motorcycles while fleeing from security operatives in Birniwa Local Government Area. Police said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

DSP Shi’isu emphasized that community cooperation remains critical in tackling crime across the state. He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

Police authorities reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations to ensure public safety and reduce criminal activity in Jigawa State.
