Sokoto Hisbah Seals Hotel Over Alleged Lodging of Minors
The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has sealed a hotel in the state capital over allegations that it was accommodating minors in violation of established regulations.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Deputy Commander General of the board, Prof. Abubakar Usman Ribah, said the action followed repeated breaches by the hotel despite earlier warnings.
Ribah stated that investigations showed the hotel had contravened rules prohibiting the lodging of minors, an act he described as contrary to the moral and legal standards enforced by the Hisbah Board.
He explained that the affected hotel, identified as Executive Hotel, had previously received warnings and was part of an agreement reached between the Hisbah Board and hotel operators in the state to bar minors from staying in their facilities.
“This is the second time such an offence has been recorded at the Executive Hotel, despite previous warnings and assurances by the management to desist from the practice,” Ribah said.
According to him, the decision to seal the hotel was taken due to its failure to comply with the board’s directives and the terms agreed upon during engagements with hoteliers across the state.
Ribah added that the Hisbah Board would continue to enforce its regulations to uphold morality and public order, in line with the religious and cultural values of Sokoto State.
