Two Killed as Empty Petrol Tanker Crashes Into Motorcycle in Lagos

commercial motorcyclist and his passenger lost their lives on Wednesday after an empty petrol tanker collided with their motorcycle at Pokia Junction, inward Araga, along the Epe–Ijebu Road in Epe, Lagos State.

The tanker driver was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said preliminary findings revealed that the motorcyclist was carrying a male passenger while riding against traffic on a prohibited one-way route, in violation of traffic regulations.

Bakare-Oki explained that the motorcycle was fatally struck by the speeding tanker, leading to the instant death of both the rider and the passenger.

LASTMA officials were said to have responded swiftly, securing the scene to prevent secondary accidents and ensuring the free flow of traffic along the affected corridor.

The remains of the deceased victims, along with the detained tanker driver, were subsequently handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police, Noforija Division, for comprehensive investigation and necessary legal action.
