Troops Foil Planned Suicide Attack in Borno State

Nigerian troops have successfully foiled a planned suicide attack in Borno State after neutralizing three suspected suicide bombers during a coordinated security operation.

The operation was carried out by soldiers of the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai, working alongside local volunteer forces, following intelligence-led surveillance in the area.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Joint Task Force (North East) Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Uba Sani.

According to the statement, the Borno State suicide attack was prevented through discreet intelligence operations that enabled troops to identify and intercept the suspects before they could carry out the planned strike.

“During the encounter, suicide vests and other improvised explosive device materials in the possession of the terrorists were recovered and safely secured,” the statement said.

Security forces also engaged individuals believed to be accompanying the suspects, forcing the remaining elements to retreat under sustained military pressure.

“The surviving elements fled into the Mandara Mountains as a result of sustained troop action,” the statement added.

Troops reportedly destroyed two motorcycles used by the attackers and recovered four AK-47 rifles that were abandoned during the operation.

Preliminary intelligence assessments suggest that the neutralized suspects were dispatched from the Mandara Mountains by the Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram, reportedly under the leadership of Ali Ngulde.

Security authorities said operations remain ongoing in the region to prevent further threats and dismantle remaining networks linked to the planned Borno State suicide attack.
