One Dead, 87 Injured in Trailer Crash in Yobe
One passenger has been confirmed dead, while 87 others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a trailer along the Potiskum-Azare Road in Yobe State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at about 2:00 p.m. near the Potiskum entry roundabout in Potiskum Local Government Area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the trailer, which was conveying passengers to the Potiskum Cattle Market, lost balance while attempting to maneuver near the roundabout and subsequently overturned.
Some survivors said the vehicle was transporting nearly 100 passengers from Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State to the cattle market at the time of the crash.
“We were coming from Azare to the Potiskum Cattle Market. As we got close to the roundabout, the driver tried to maneuver, and suddenly the trailer tumbled,” one survivor recounted.
Emergency responders and security personnel arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. The injured passengers were evacuated and taken to the emergency unit of the Potiskum Specialist Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
Police authorities said further details surrounding the cause of the accident are under investigation.
