Akpabio Hails Supreme Court Ruling Affirming Okpebholo as Edo Governor
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Governor Monday Okpebholo as a “victory for democracy and the will of the people.”
In a statement personally signed and released through his media aide Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio celebrated the apex court’s decision upholding Okpebholo’s win in the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election.
“The court has affirmed the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the people of Edo State. It proves the election was transparent, free, and fair,” Akpabio stated.
Akpabio emphasized that the Supreme Court’s judgment delivered in favor of Okpebholo and against Asue Ighodalo of the PDP reinforces the idea that:
-
Elections are decided at the ballot
-
Grassroots support is pivotal
-
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has solid public backing in Edo
“This judgment reaffirms democracy is at play. Edo people have embraced the APC and elected Senator Okpebholo as their governor,” he said.
The Senate President congratulated Governor Okpebholo and praised his first seven months in office as promising and effective. He encouraged the governor to keep up the momentum.
“I believe he will do excellently well in his four-year tenure,” Akpabio affirmed.
He also pledged the Senate’s collaboration and support in driving development and prosperity across Edo State.
