Plateau Govt Criticizes Nigerian Army Over Inaction During Jebbu Binde Attack
The Plateau State Government has publicly criticized the Nigerian Army for failing to stop or apprehend the gunmen who carried out a deadly attack in Jebbu Binde, Ta-Hoss District of Riyom Local Government Area, on Monday, July 14, 2025.
Over 30 people were killed, and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the incident, which lasted for hours, all while a military checkpoint sat just 200 meters from the scene.
Speaking on Channels TV’s “The Morning Brief,” Commissioner for Information Joyce Ramnap expressed outrage, stating the troops stationed nearby failed to engage or arrest any of the suspected Fulani militias involved.
“It is not a hidden community. With the military checkpoint so close, there should have been at least some arrests or meaningful intervention,” Ramnap said.
She added that intelligence gathered after the incident confirmed that no arrests were made, a development she called both frustrating and suspicious.
Ramnap revealed that, in addition to killing innocent villagers, the attackers also razed homes and farmlands, destroying crops and livelihoods.
While she stopped short of accusing the entire military of complicity, she emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the military’s failure to act.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed security agencies to explain the military’s inaction and has reiterated his administration’s resolve to protect communities across Plateau State from future violence.
“These were unprovoked, senseless killings,” Ramnap stressed. “The governor has promised to do all within his power to end these bloodthirsty attacks and restore peace.”
