Joe Igbokwe Blames Igbos for South-East Insecurity, Clears Fulani Herdsmen
Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked controversy after claiming that the escalating violence in the South-East is being caused by Igbos themselves—not by Fulani herdsmen as widely alleged.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, Igbokwe strongly criticized what he described as misleading narratives surrounding the region’s worsening security situation.
“The blatant and pathological lies about the killings and destruction in the South-East can no longer stand,” he wrote. “It is Igbo killing Igbo. It is Igbo destroying Igboland and putting the blame on Hausa/Fulani herdsmen. This is not our culture. This is sad.”
Igbokwe’s remarks come amid a fresh wave of violence in the region, especially in Imo and Anambra states, where killings, abductions, and property destruction have become disturbingly frequent.
One of the latest victims, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, was a well-known Anambra-based businessman. He was reportedly abducted from his residence in the Ezinifite community in Okpuno, Awka South LGA, and later found dead on Wednesday.
His killing has drawn widespread outrage and grief across social media.
In response to Onyekere’s murder, outspoken social media personality VeryDarkMan has vowed to storm Anambra State to hold a candlelight procession in honor of the slain fish farmer.
The activist’s statement has added to the growing calls for accountability, justice, and real solutions to the unrelenting security crisis facing the South-East.
