Governor Bala Mohammed Sacks SAZU Acting Bursar Over Financial Mismanagement

Ayuba Mohammed Gital, the Acting Bursar of Sa’adu Zungur State University (SAZU), has been dismissed by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed following allegations of poor financial accountability and mismanagement.

The announcement was made in Bauchi on Tuesday, as the governor received a visitation panel report investigating the university’s finances and administrative practices.

“The level of financial mismanagement reported since the university’s inception in 2012 is unacceptable,” Governor Mohammed stated.

He also expressed concerns over how internally generated revenue and student fees have been managed.

In response to the findings, the governor said he would immediately set up an audit committee to review:

  • How student fees are being handled

  • The management of other internally generated income

  • Compliance with financial accountability measures

The move, he said, aims to restore public confidence in SAZU’s management and ensure the institution operates with integrity.

The visitation panel, led by Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, visited all campuses of SAZU and received 47 detailed memoranda, including reports from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Key Concerns Raised:

  • Chronic underfunding

  • Poor financial controls

  • Mismanagement at multiple administrative levels

  • ASUU grievances over university oversight

“We found systemic weaknesses in the way funds are being managed,” Prof. Abdullahi stated.

She also noted that N400 million had recently been injected into the university’s budget but emphasized the need to re-evaluate the multi-campus structure for efficiency.
