Atiku, Peter Obi, El-Rufai Visit Daura to Mourn Former President Buhari
Three prominent Nigerian political figures, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, visited Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday to offer their condolences to the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The condolence visit comes just days after the former president died in London on Sunday, following a prolonged illness.
Buhari passed away at a hospital in London after spending 10 to 14 days under medical care. The cause of death remains undisclosed, in keeping with the privacy that surrounded his health throughout his presidency.
From 2015 to 2023, Buhari served as Nigeria’s elected leader after previously ruling as military Head of State from 1984 to 1985. His tenure was marked by extensive medical travels, with the longest being a 104-day medical leave in 2017.
He was buried on Tuesday in Daura, his hometown, in accordance with Islamic funeral rites, amid a solemn outpouring of grief from citizens and world leaders alike.
