FCTA Signs MoU for Abuja City Walk Project Modeled After Dubai’s Urban Landmark
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MAG International Links Ltd to kick off the development of City Walk Abuja, a transformative urban project inspired by Dubai’s City Walk.
Announced on Wednesday during a formal signing ceremony, the agreement marks a significant milestone in Abuja’s urban renewal push, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Abuja City Walk project will cover 200 hectares and blend residential, retail, commercial, hotel, institutional, and healthcare spaces. It will be built on land previously allocated to the long-stalled Abuja Technology Village along Airport Road.
“If anyone has seen City Walk in Dubai, you’ll understand why we can’t pass up this opportunity,” said FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, stressing the potential of the project to boost tourism, job creation, and infrastructure growth.
Wike made it clear that this would not be “just another land handover.” He revealed that the investor has submitted approved plans and received a Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O), but must adhere to strict timelines or risk land revocation.
“Too many people have taken 200 or 300 hectares and done nothing for 20 years. We are changing that pattern,” he warned.
According to Wike, construction will begin between July and August 2025, and Phase 1 is scheduled for completion by May 2026, to coincide with the third anniversary of Tinubu’s administration.
He assured full institutional backing:
-
Access roads will be built immediately.
-
Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) is expediting approvals.
-
Development Control and Land Departments have been directed to clear all legal and bureaucratic hurdles.
Dr. Kassim Gidado, Executive Director of MAG International, described City Walk Abuja as more than a copy of Dubai’s version.
“It will be an improvement culturally grounded, yet globally appealing,” he said.
He emphasized that the project will revitalize the Lugbe axis and set new standards for sustainable, high-value urban design in Nigeria.
“This is not just about buildings. It’s about creating a vibrant, inclusive space that reflects our heritage while competing on the world stage,” Gidado added.
