APC Should Prioritize Governance, Not Get Distracted by ADC—Adewale

Political analyst Ayodele Adewale has urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stay focused on fulfilling its promises rather than being distracted by the emergence of opposition alliances like the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on TVC’s breakfast political segment on Thursday, Adewale addressed the political coalition’s growing visibility but downplayed its relevance compared to the urgent tasks facing the APC.

“From my perspective, I will not get carried away by all these innuendos. I think the ruling party, the APC, should focus more on the programmes they’re delivering and fast-track interventions on economic matters,” he said.

Adewale pointed out that the current administration is laying the groundwork for long-term economic recovery. He cited:

  • Increased efforts to attract foreign direct investment

  • Education sector reforms aimed at improving access and quality

  • Initiatives to deepen international partnerships

“I understand the pains, but these are birth pangs for a better economy. Nigerians should be patient,” he added.

Adewale referenced Nigeria's economic turbulence during the 1980s and 1990s, particularly in the aftermath of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP). Back then:

  • Many families couldn’t afford tuition

  • Industries shut down

  • Unemployment reached critical levels

He likened current hardships to that era, but emphasized that unlike in the past, the present government has intentional policy direction and an eye on global competitiveness.

Rather than being reactive to opposition coalitions, Adewale called on the APC to deepen its work on:

  • Economic stabilization

  • Inflation control

  • Social safety programs

  • Long-term structural reforms

“Distractions will always exist, but governance must remain the main event,” he concluded.
