Lagos Local Government Elections Kick Off at Sanwo-Olu's Polling Unit

Voting has officially begun across Lagos State as residents elect new chairmen and councilors for their local government areas and council development areas.

At Polling Unit 007, located at St. Stephen's Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele on Lagos Island, the process commenced promptly at 8:00 a.m., with officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arriving on time and beginning accreditation and voting procedures without delay.

This polling unit is of particular interest as it’s where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his vote.

Among the early voters was Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the governor, who confirmed on social media that voting had commenced smoothly.

Security was tight. Armed police officers were visibly stationed around the polling venue to ensure order and safety throughout the process.

All 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) recognized by the Nigerian constitution are participating in the election.

The elections are being closely watched, with many seeing them as a test of local democratic engagement and the credibility of LASIEC.
