Saudi ‘Sleeping Prince’ Dies After 19 Years in Coma Following 2005 Car Crash

Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, widely known as the ‘Sleeping Prince’, has died nearly two decades after slipping into a coma caused by a car accident in 2005.

The late prince, nephew to billionaire royal Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, was just a teenager when the accident occurred. He remained in an unconscious state for 19 years, confined to a hospital bed but kept alive with hope, prayer, and round-the-clock care.

Though silent for nearly two decades, Prince Al Waleed became a quiet symbol of resilience for many across the Arab world. His parents frequently shared updates on his condition, holding fast to the belief that he might one day wake up.

Over the years, videos of small movements, such as fluttering eyelids or slight head turns, occasionally went viral, giving millions a reason to believe in the impossible.

Family members confirmed that the prince passed away on Saturday. His funeral will be held Sunday in Riyadh, with details expected to be shared by the Royal Court.

Condolences have already begun to pour in across social media and official Saudi channels.
