Omoyele Sowore Accuses Police Cameraman of Stealing AI Smart Glasses During Protest
Controversial Nigerian activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has accused a police public relations cameraman of stealing his Ray-Ban AI smart glasses during a protest in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 15, outside the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, where Sowore had joined a large group of retired police officers protesting inadequate pension payments.
Shortly after the demonstration, Sowore claimed his smart glasses had been stolen, alleging the theft was captured on camera.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Sowore named the alleged culprit as Aku Victor Chiemere, whom he described as "a staff cameraman under the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi."
“This act is not only criminal; it is a reprehensible abuse of power orchestrated by a senior police officer,” Sowore wrote.
He further alleged that the theft occurred in plain sight and demanded immediate restitution and legal action against both Chiemere and CSP Adejobi.
“I am demanding the immediate return of my stolen property and the prosecution of both CSP Muyiwa Adejobi and Aku Victor Chiemere for theft, conspiracy, and official misconduct,” he stated.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official response to the allegation.
The protest was organized by retired police officers seeking reforms in pension payments and welfare. Sowore, known for his involvement in civic uprisings and human rights campaigns, joined in solidarity.
The alleged theft and ensuing controversy have since drawn additional attention to the protest, overshadowing the original message and raising questions about police transparency.
