“Without Tinubu, Buhari Would Never Have Been President” — Reno Omokri Drops Political Bombshell
Political commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri isn’t one to hold back. And on Thursday night, during a heated episode of Arise TV’s Prime Time, he fired off a sharp rebuttal to recent remarks made by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
Mustapha had claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t need Bola Tinubu to win the presidency. Omokri says: Not true at all.
“Buhari had a captive vote of 12 million since 2003. But it never got him the presidency,” Omokri argued.
“It was only when votes from the South, driven by Tinubu’s political structure, were added that Buhari could cross the finish line in 2015.”
According to him, without that critical alliance with the South, Goodluck Jonathan would’ve won a second term.
Omokri didn’t stop there. He delved into Nigeria’s political framework:
“The Nigerian system, as structured from the Obasanjo military era, was designed to prevent any one tribal bloc from producing a president alone.”
His point? No one wins Nigeria’s top seat on regional support alone. Tinubu’s involvement created the national coalition Buhari needed to win.
Omokri believes Mustapha’s statement is politically motivated:
“He’s just trying to stir friction between Tinubu and Buhari,” he said bluntly.
“But history is history. Buhari needed Tinubu. Without him, Jonathan would have won and Buhari would’ve remained a ‘tiny dot in a circle.’”
