FG Commissions 63MVA Substation in Oyo, Adds 50.4MW to National Grid
The Federal Government has commissioned a 63 megavolt-ampere (MVA), 132/33kV mobile substation in Eleyele, located in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State. The new facility injects 50.4 megawatts (MW) of electricity into Nigeria’s national grid.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this on Thursday during the inauguration ceremony, noting that the project was executed through a partnership between the FGN Power Company and Siemens Energy of Germany.
Adelabu stated that residents and business owners in Apete, Ologuneru, Sango, Ibadan, and surrounding communities would benefit directly from improved electricity supply.
He added that this commissioning is part of a broader strategy to expand the national transmission capacity by 302.4MW, using six mobile substations strategically located across the country.
“With today’s commissioning at Eleyele, an additional 50.4MW is added, bringing the total to six mobile substations contributing 302.4MW to the transmission network,” Adelabu said.
Adelabu also noted that another 50.4MW mobile substation is nearing completion at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
In June, Mustapha Abdullahi, Director-General of the Energy Commission, reported that President Bola Tinubu’s administration had expanded the national grid by 2,000MW in total.
Despite these efforts, Nigeria’s electricity generation still hovers between 4,500MW and 5,148MW, serving an estimated population of over 250 million.
