Edo Security Squad Arrests 20 in Raids Targeting Cultists, Kidnappers, and Drug Dealers
At least 20 suspects have been apprehended in Benin City, Edo State, during a sweeping security operation code-named "Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists." The initiative, launched by Governor Monday Okpebholo, is part of a broader effort to restore peace and order in the state.
The arrests took place on Tuesday across several notorious hotspots, including Isiohor, Iguosa, Oluku, and Lagos Street. Raids uncovered dangerous weapons, illegal drugs, and other incriminating items.
John Adewale Eseikhaigbe, a key member of the Special Squad, hailed the governor’s swift action in assembling the multi-agency task force.
“Thanks to the state governor for the initiative. He is committed to peace and determined to end the killings in Edo,” he said.
“We’ve arrested several suspects and found drugs, weapons, and other items. This operation has come to stay. We’re cleaning the streets.”
The operation isn’t limited to cultism. It also targets kidnappers, drug dealers, and armed robbers, due to the interconnected nature of these crimes.
Fellow task force member Eribo Emwanta addressed the sealing of a hotel in Isiohor during the raid, clarifying that it was not politically motivated.
“The hotel appears to have harbored drug dealers and cultists. This is not a witch-hunt—it’s about safety,” he explained.
