Nigerian Army Commends NEMA for Disaster Response, Vows Continued Support

The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have lauded the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its relentless efforts in disaster mitigation and humanitarian intervention nationwide.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by NEMA officials, led by Yakubu Lawal, the agency’s North-East Zonal Coordinator, to the Brigade Headquarters in Jalingo, Taraba State.

During the meeting on Monday, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, applauded NEMA’s role in responding to crises and supporting vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

“The role NEMA plays in cushioning the impact of disasters is commendable,” he said. “6 Brigade remains ever ready to support your operations whenever the need arises.”

In response, Yakubu Lawal expressed appreciation for the military’s consistent support, especially during the 2024 flood emergency in Borno State. He issued a fresh flood warning for parts of Taraba and Adamawa States, citing rising rainfall levels.

Lawal emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration between disaster response agencies and security forces to manage risks and improve emergency preparedness.

Also speaking during the visit, Yakubu Suleiman, another NEMA official, praised the 6 Brigade’s proactive support in the state and reaffirmed the importance of military-civilian synergy in disaster readiness and response.

The visit concluded with both parties expressing mutual commitment to strengthening inter-agency cooperation in protecting lives and property across Taraba and the broader northeast region.
