Peter Obi Pays Tribute to Late Super Eagles Goalkeeper Peter Rufai
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai, fondly known as Dodo Mayana.
Rufai passed away in Lagos on Thursday, June 27, at the age of 61, after battling an undisclosed illness.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi described the late goalkeeper’s passing as “regrettable” and a great national loss.
“Rufai gave his best for the nation,” Obi wrote. “He offered football-loving Nigerians unforgettable moments on the field.”
Obi, known for often honoring Nigerian sports icons, extended prayers to the Rufai family:
“May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
