Federal Government Declares July 15 Public Holiday in Honour of Late President Buhari
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in memory of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday after a prolonged illness.
The announcement was made by Minister of Interior Affairs, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Monday, July 14, with approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the minister, the holiday is meant to recognize Buhari’s service, integrity, and dedication to national unity and democratic growth.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,” said Tunji-Ojo.
He added that the day should be used to reflect on Buhari’s values, his leadership, and his vision for a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
As previously announced, national flags will continue to fly at half-mast across the country for seven days, beginning Sunday, July 13, in line with the official mourning period.
